Pinky & Stinky are fat little piglets, but just because they're cuties that doesn't mean they're not brave astronauts! Determinedly, they embark on a daring mission to be the first pigs on Pluto, but things go horribly wrong as soon as the journey begins and they crash land on the moon. Soon they find themselves playing a pivotal role in the moon men's battle to free themselves from the oppression of the American space program! This is an unabashedly fun book, like Star Wars mixed with Pokemon, if you can believe that! Packed with action, adventure, and cute little cuties!… (més)

The adventures of Pinky & Stinky. This Reading Journal has open me to so many different books. I loved this one! It was great to see them make home safely. The illustrations being black and white was so simplistic I love everything about it.

Most appropriate for second graders, there might be too much text for Kindergarten and first graders. Tells the story of two pig astronauts named Pinky and Stinky, who are headed on an adventure to Pluto. Trouble ensues and get involved in a battle with moon men. This book is fun, interesting, and sure to keep even reluctant readers engaged because of the simple, comic-like format.
Uses in classroom:
-Study on science fiction
-Study on graphic novel genre
-Interactive read aloud
-Model for students to make their own graphic novels
-Independent reading

Stinky and Pinky are piglets in Space!

Astronauts, they are headed for Pluto when they accidentally crash on the Moon. Fortunately for them it's the future and earthlings are already busy drilling holes and looking for resources. The piglets approach them only to be greeted on the one hand, and spurned on the other.

This same reaction summarizes the humans approach to the Moon people they run across.

THE SKINNY:::
Large black and white drawings in a simple format that kids like. The text is large, although the sources say that the book is at the 4th grade level.

My 3rd Grade boy likes the book well enough. Although I should note that unlike Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy kid, Stinky and Pinky didn't cause him to roll around on the floor laughing.

Adults might read it once, but the plotline will be familiar if you've watched or read any old scifi.

I liked that there was actually some thought-provoking stuff in this book. The mean, prejudiced astronaut ought to give children something to think about.

I'd recommend the book for older elementary aged kids.

For those who do appreciate his fluid lines and simple design, though, there’s humor and sadness and adventure and clever inventiveness and a statement against piglet bias, all in his unique style.
