( ) Having recently read Rick Atkinson's Guns of Last Light, this volume repeated some of the same information but also added details that Atkinson did not have in his book. Some reviewers have criticized the title as being misleading but if one wishes to understand why Patton was so controversial and had so many enemies which led some to believe he was assassinated, one must have the background on why this was believed by some which also means we must have the details about what the war and political situation was near the end of the war. Since O'Reilly did so much research of diaries and journals, he was able to find many very personal details about Patton and others military leaders and politicians from all the countries involved including the Axis combatants. General Bernard Montgomery comes out badly in this volume as he does in other histories of this period of the war. This was a fun read which while covering the history also included gossip much of what I heard or read before. He did find extra details that I had not seen before. General George S. Patton, Jr. died under mysterious circumstances in the months following the end of World War II. For almost seventy years, there has been suspicion that his death was not an accident--and may very well have been an act of assassination. "Killing Patton" takes readers inside the final year of the war and recounts the events surrounding Patton's tragic demise, naming names of the many powerful individuals who wanted him silenced.
