Een meisje van 15 verhuist met haar ouders, broer en zusjes van het platteland naar de stad. Op haar nieuwe school krijgt ze een vriendin met wie ze zo veel mogelijk samen is. Ze kan Kasia soms niet begrijpen (ze steelt, componeert, is vaak alleen thuis) maar gaat voor haar door het vuur. Tot Kasia ziek wordt omdat haar vader (die in het buitenland woont) overlijdt. Dan grijpt Ewa haar kans om invloed op haar uit te oefenen. Dat gaat erg ver. Uiteindelijk moet ze constateren dat ze er toch alleen voor staat en dat niemand echt belangstelling voor haar heeft.
