A light well written book about life. If something or someone defines you and you no longer have it, what do you do is what the book is all about. I enjoyed this one. ( )

A little more introspective than I usually like, but I enjoyed it none the less. Not going to lie that I was rooting for Matt and jasmine to be end game for a while but am alright with them just being friends, it's nice to see platonic relationships like that sometimes. ( )

This book has a light plot, and was another of those kind of books where I just could not put down once I picked it up. I found myself yearning for free time throughout, where I would be able to pick up the book to read. So as to make this review spoiler-free, I'll be subtle when referring to certain things.
I must admit that throughout the story, I suspected that Jasmine would end up with one of the two guys. I knew she wouldn't get with Kevin, seeing as how she had been so uncomfortable by the incident years ago. I was right, and I thought that her relationship with her neighbour ended up being really sweet. I should also admit that the description given for Monday had completely thrown off my initial image of him. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you. Just that it was rather very different from what I had in mind.
I admit that Matt pissed me off almost as much as he did Jasmine, and as the story progressed, her opinion of him mirrored mine. I also loved how protective she was of her older sister Heather, and how much Jasmine loved her. In about a quarter in the story, you'll learn why.

All in all, I really liked this story, just like I've loved Cecelia's other books. ( )

unexpectedly a better outcome and progression that I was expecting. The story starts with a fairly clichéd catalyst event which causes the main character to re-examine her life. It is not just a "fall into bed with your hero" unwind. There is a lot more to it

This book is a good examination of the "whys" to a bunch of folk who are on a particular track in life... a worthy read ( )

Cecelia Ahern’s books are all different. Some are quirky, some emotional, and some are decidedly strange. This one has the unusual quirk of being written in the second person, at least some of the time. Jasmine, the narrator and main protagonist, addresses the book to Matt - the ‘you’ of the title - which works, on the whole.

This is perhaps the most memorable feature of the book. There isn’t much emotion, the characters are rather flat, and it’s almost entirely predictable throughout. Jasmine is out of work and frustrated about it, but soon finds other things to occupy her time. Matt is annoying, but reforms prettyeasily. There’s minor conflict but it’s all happily resolved; even the mildly creepy people turn out to be reasonable underneath.

Still, it's not a bad book. Cecelia Ahern has a good writing style, with realistic dialogue. There are, despite the lack of plot, some interesting scenes, particularly those including Jasmine's sister Heather, who has Down Syndrome. The novel provided a pleasant way of seeing into the lives of some everyday people who are learning about themselves; it was good bedtime reading, one or two chapters at a time. There are no cliffhangers, no real tensions. It was easy to put down, and good to pick up again the following evening.

Read it by all means if you like this author, or if you want something easy to read to take on holiday. But don’t expect too much. Then again, the blurb on the back calls this a ‘dazzling gem’, ‘heartbreaking and uplifting’ - so perhaps I’m missing the point. ( )
