I honestly didn't like this book ( )

This is a book which falls into two main parts which the author attempts to link together. The first part deals with Fenimore struggling with addiction, family of origin dysfunction, and depression. This is the more well written part. The author displays a positive sense of putting her life in perspective, learning from the traumas she suffered and the identifying the coping mechanisms that didn't work. The second part deals with her "death" which was actually her unsuccessful attempt to end her life. The "experience" she had of being at the edge of hell is described in an unconvincing way. Fenimore calls it a purgatorial type of place populated by many ghost-like entities. No one is really happy or sad, just blank faces with indifferent human expressions. One gets the impression that the edge of hell is physically located proximate to purgatory. No reason for why this would be is given. The author describes this experience while simultaneously interpreting it. This is a tell-tale sign of confusion about what happened and lack of clarity or inability in communicating it. In essence, this account is unreliable, at least in the entire second part. The author has categorized the book under christian biography but there are problems with what she "learned" during her experience. The author says she was raised during childhood within Catholicism. But she also claims, in chapter 17, that God revealed that God the Father was mortal at one time on earth. That there are many planets in the universe which are populated by "children of God". Some of these children are preborn souls gaining the desire sufficient to enter into the world. This book is more New Age in its understanding than the born-again christian type which is where she seems to want to be. The first part of the book is more engaging and insightful than the second. 146 pages, no index, 20 chapters with an epilogue.

The first half of this book deals with the author's life, and her struggles. Very much a hard knock life, but at the same time, much of it was the author's own making. The second half deals with her attempted suicide, thus going on a journey to where she meets God and Jesus, and finally finds out how to deal with her issues, and how it affects others here on Earth. There were a few surprising revelations in it for me, which I won't spoil by telling you. Very much a thought provoking read. ( )
