Similar to Devil Wears Prada. Very enjoyable. ( )

Amusing read, but impossible to believe a 42 year woman in the fashion industry would not be tech savvy. Also her coworker was such a HR nightmare it was also impossible to believe she wouldn't be instantly fired. But this is not the type of book I pick up for historical accuracy so it gets 3 stars. ( )

For anyone who is a fan of fashion-saavy books like the Devil Wears Prada, this entertianing book is sure to be at the top of their list this year. The authors' clear writing is at once humorous and critical in its view of the age-war between the traditionally-inclined Imgoen (a so called "dinosaur" of a fashion editor in chief for Glossy magazine) and the tech-saavy and modern Eve (her former assistant gone power hungry). The book comes off as much more than the typical flighty chic-lit, since the biggest theme of the novel is that of the changes in technology that have changed the workplace - especially in the realm of fashion - and therefore the dynamic between the old guard and the new. As someone who falls strictly on the side of technology, one would think that I would have more sympathy for Eve (who can be viewed as just wanting to shake things up and move into the future), but I honestly have no patience for her type of manipulation and catty behavior. She's the exact kind of person in my generation who has absolutely no respect or understanding of the value of tradition and careful planning, so I felt quite vindicated when she was kicked to the curb in the final pages of the novel! Millennials get such a bad rap and this book didn't help. It reads like a reverse Devil Wears Prada but the difference it it tries to paint the boss and a crazy millennial when she would be that crazy and unreasonable no matter what her age was. At least from what I remember of the TDWP, Miranda's evilness wasn't blamed on her age. I'm on the cusp of a Millennial and while I don't really get a lot of the millennial traits, I also don't get all the hate.

That being said I did enjoy the book and I did root for Imogen, but the story fell a little flat to me overall, probably because of my feelings in the first paragraph. I'd also recently read another novel, where I think the author was better able to address these differences. ( )

Read based on this blurb: It’s “Silicon Valley” meets “The Devil Wears Prada,” and a great read for the beach. Imagine if a young Vogue employee wanted to overthrow Anna Wintour, and turn the magazine into just an app. Warning: you will laugh out loud, so read in public at your own risk.

Didn't find any of it to be true. This book is definitely not funny and not nearly as smart as The Devil Wears Prada. Pretty one dimensional and predictable. One character is made into a can-do-no-wrong angel and the other is made so hideous she is hard to believe. ( )
