I learn something from each one. Whether it is about the military, or PTSD or BDSM or in the case of this book vision quests and purification by Native Americans. As this was just a novella the cast of characters was much smaller but the impact of the story was just as powerful as a full length book. Ryder Wilson was a Marine that served with Adam and the team during that ill fated mission years ago. He also served with Gino D’Alessio earlier who if you follow the series was the brother of Marc that died in combat. Ryder feels guilt for both what happened in Iraq and to Gino and has let that and a good case of PTSD make him become a recluse and not deal with his issues. Megan is Adam’s half sister who even though innocent in some ways is very good at noticing the signs of PTSD and has a way with helping. I’m not going to talk a lot about what Ryder and Megan go through but to say they were perfect for each other and I really enjoyed their journey and story. One of my favorite funny scenes has to do with Kally incorporating a fellow author and her popular series into a scene that had me laughing out loud. Fans of the series will love this short story that was an added bonus as we wait for the next full length book to come out. Nobody's Lost (Rescue Me Saga #5) by Kallypso Masters, was a very enjoyable, honest, true to life read. So many other readers have pointed out how this book is different than the others in the Rescue Me Saga, to that I say OK – so what! I think it’s wonderful that the author felt secure enough in her writing, story line, characters and fans that she could deviate from a “formula”, expected content, or style of presentation and still bring a great and meaningful story to the readers. I think that unless you know someone suffering from PTSD, the full scope of the problems, their loss of self esteem, relationship issues, work issues and environmental issues is hard to comprehend. I applaud the author for touching lightly and positively (no emotional drain on the reader) on such a huge issue facing many of our veterans. If authors use their books as vehicles to bring more understanding and focus to this issue I can only see it as a win-win, as long as its done honestly and not sugar coated to diminish seriousness of this trauma. I enjoyed both Ryder and Megan as characters, although their back story was limited, there was enough presented for the readers to get a good feel for them as characters, they weren't perfect, but they were willing to work with what they had. I liked Megan’s curiosity in the BDSM lifestyle and her honesty about her own sexual history. I loved the references dangled in the story about “other” popular BDSM novels and characters. I was happy that Ryder owned up to his personal issues, as well as his emotional issues and understood his personal limitations – never did he “blame” the war for his problems. I only wish he could have escaped some of the guilt he carried, but that too is part of the PTSD package. My only complaint about this story was the rapid or rush feel of the romance. Overall for me this was a 4 star read and I personally enjoyed this story just as it was. In fact I almost felt the authors positive outlook on life come through the characters. Ryder Wilson returned from serving multiple deployments, but can't leave the hell of combat behind him. Frustrated and ashamed of his inability to function in the world, unlike the veterans he had served with, Ryder retreated. When sent on a mission to protect the sister of retired Master Sergeant Adam Montague, Ryder's days of hiding out may be over. Can he fulfill his mission without failing again? Megan Gallagher has two big-brother Marines bent on protecting her from the evils of the world, but she's tougher than they think. When her older brother sends Ryder, one of his recon Marines, to her doorstep in the wee hours one night following a break-in, she realizes he needs rescuing more than she does. A friendship forms quickly, but unexpected passions run hot and complicate her resolve never to have a romantic relationship, much less marriage. So why are her body and her heart betraying her every time he comes near? Can these two wounded people lower their defenses long enough to allow love to grow?
