This is a wonderful guide to cameos. The text gives information on identifying cameos, detecting fakes, as well as the history of the cameo including techniques for manufacture, popular materials, and contemporary developments.
The book has hundreds of pictures. The one complaint that I coudl make is that most are black and white, but there is a nice collection section with some exquisite specimans. For the most parts, cameos are one of the things that can be fairly well portrayed in black-and-white, but these pictures show the subtle effects that color can have.
Adding to the information is a chronology of cameo and stone-carving in Europe, a glossary, an extensive bibliography and an index. ( )

There are at least four editions of this book: 1991 (ISBN: 0442002785), 1998 (ISBN: 0943763177), 2002 (ISBN: 0943763363), 2009 (ISBN: 9780943763606, 0943763606). My attempts to separate them have met with mixed success.
