This is a cute, realistic novel.

Luke Abbott attends a middle school that is famous--famous for losing. They’ve never won anything--ever. There is NOTHING in the trophy case. One of the teachers wants there to be at least one trophy, so he forms a robotics team. Luke is asked to join, but he’s perfectly happy with this schedule. He gets home and plays video games with a friend he met online until supper. Why would he want to stay after school even one day a week to work on something that they won’t win. It’s a waste of time.

Lunchbox Jones is the “scary” kid who has stories spread about him that makes him even more scary. When Mr. Terry gets Luke’s father to insist that Luke join the robotics team, Luke finds Lunchbox Jones as part of the group. Could it be any worse? Yes, because the team has some odd characters. The meanest girl in school is also on the team, Missy as well as the girl who does everything with her feet (it’s her thing), and two boys who no one can really tell apart. It’s a recipe for a disaster. The only thing is that Luke starts to actually care and gets curious about the real Lunchbox Jones.

It’s truly a cute, amusing story that you’ll enjoy if you want a fun book to read for a few hours. I recommend it. ( )
