A Nearly Infallible History of Christianity (edició 2015)

This was a very funny book about a very serious subject. Page goes from the beginnings of the Christian church all the way to present. He pulls no punches about all the things that the church did but with his sense of humor helps to deal with the horrors that happened. The research is solid with good notes if you want to do more yourself. The footnotes are the best and how Page tracks the organ from creation to modern day was hilarious. He gives famous people little boxes where he talks briefly about them but again his humor is all over the descriptions. The chapters are long but he does give good break in them so that it is manageable. I would like to read more by Page.

A light hearted, easy to read history of Christianity. I enjoyed it.

If you aren't fairly well aquainted with church history you might want to read this along with a more traditional one, just to make sure you aren't taking the jokes seriously. Use the other one to make sure of the details, but this one for the overview and a sense pf perspective.

The jokes tend to be fairly British, so some familiarity with British humour would also be helpful. Although my husband and I laughed hard over the picture of Calvin. The joke there reminded us of a favourite Swiss joke, and the whole thing put us so in mind of the time we spent in Geneva.

Oh, yes. He doesn't like organs.

I found a few errors of fact that I don't think were intended as jokes, but in general this is a good history of the church concentrating on the West, and with England given major importance. I'm really impressed by how much was included. ( )
