This book or rather stories were amazing. There were creepy and scary. A few were predictable, but some were scaring me as I listened to the audiobook and freaked out while driving lonely woods. Any fan of Alice in Wonderland would like this as well as King or Gaiman. ( )

Anthologies are tough because you’re never going to like all the stories – or perhaps I should say almost never. While there were definitely certain stories in this collection that shone brighter than the others, I didn’t dislike any of them. They were all interesting and well written and clever! While the theme was YA horror shorts, these would easily be enjoyed by adult fans of the genre as well. ( )

This book surprised me by a lot, not only is it YA, which I don't normally like and its horror, which I never read, I actually surprisingly enjoyed this anthology.
The stories were all [minus 2 of them] interesting and compelling. The aspect that I enjoyed most was that each story was inspired by one or multiple other sources. Some of the stories I could easily tell where their source of inspiration came from, a few I had no idea, but I loved that at the end of the story it was reveled what the sources where.
I will say the strongest stories are right at the start and then slowly start to taper off, but not to the point to where I wanted to DNF it, they were still good enough to keep me listening but they aren't the type to stick with me afterwards.
This is one anthology I can see myself recommending to others. ( )

I thought this was a fantastic collection and while the average rating of the stories is lower I think it deserves 5 stars as a collection.

The Birds of Azaela Street
5/5
Very good. The imagery was excellent and had a satisfying ending.

In The Forest Dark and Deep
4.5/5
Creepy af. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars a because at times the author purposefully misleads us with the protagonists emotions. Otherwise I really loved how dark it was

Verse Chorus Verse
3.5/5
Terrible people and terrible stuff happening to them. Seriously though they were some really complex we written characters. I just wish it was more drawn out, with a little more context. I would have absolutely loved it then because I'm still confused as to what exactly happened.

Emmeline
4/5
The writing was very pretty. I found it very predictable though

Hide and Seek
3/5
It was okay. Again, very predictable. And there was nothing really great about the writing. Also the solution should have been so obvious

The Dark, Scary Parts and All
4.5/5
Objectively it should be lower but I personally love narratives of people going, fuck it, let's embrace evil. Let's take that brooding ya love interest and actually make him the devil. Loved it

The Flicker, The Fingers, The Beat, The Sigh
5/5
This was my favourite story in the entire book. It was haunting, brilliant and sad. The writing had this abstract, rhythmic quality about it. I can't express my love for this story enough

Fat Girl With A Knife
4/5
The only comedic story in this collection and it was fun. Nothing else to say, it delivered and I would read it again.

M
3/5
Having a blind character as the protagonist as the mc really ups the creepiness. Still, I think the story could have been a whole lot creepier with some supernatural elements. Liked the ending though

Sleepless
5/5
The twists man. In hindsight they were obvious but were so well disguised. I loved the narrative voice and use of text messages in this one. Pretty dark

The Girl Without A Face
5/5
Disturbing. Well written but wow so disturbing. It also had specific horror triggers that I find extra disturbing in particular. So yeah, I enjoyed it

The Girl Who Dreamt of Snow
3/5
Cool folklore but the rest was fine

Stitches
4.5/5
Super creepy, I loved it. Great characters I just feel like there could have been more in that ending

On The 1 5
3.5/5
Neat Concept. Parts of the writing pulled me out of the story but apart from that it was very satisfying ( )

This was a great collection is scary/ horror stories for my lovers of dark and twisted tales. These current and noteworthy authors take familiar tales and add their own sick and wonderfully twisted additions. This was having me on the edge of my seat with the stories when I went over them again. I absolutely love this book. ( )
