I had been hearing about The Off-Campus series for a while and finally decided to start! This book was a comforting book for me to read. Read Hannah's trauma from her past was very scary and I hope no one has to go through that. The way Garret made her comfortable with many things including sex or sexual activities made me feel appreciated for his character. Also reading about his past abuse that he went through was very interesting to learn about what he had to live through for many years. Their chemistry was so warming and it killed me when they weren't together. Hannah and Garret's banter was something so fun to read. Awesome book! ( )

Whenever I am reviewing a book, I ask myself "Would I read this book again?". I want to like every book I read, so this answer really helps me separate a good book from a great book.

Well, to be clear, I just finished my 3rd re-read of this GEM. I'm not sure if it necessarily deserves a 3rd read through but I just got done reading 4 back to back, just plain... awful books. I was looking for a sure thing, ya know? Don't let me disparage you though, this book checked every single box for me. By far, best of the 6 or so Elle Kennedy books I've ventured out to read. Screw it, It's one of the best books of this genre.

Both of the main characters were very, very, very likable without being unrealistically perfect. G being a bit vain and egotistical while Hannah is a bit hot headed and also judgmental at times. I thought the story progression and pacing was right on point, I felt that we were getting to know the characters as they were getting to know each other. Nobody snapped their fingers and fell in love immediately without even knowing the other. I enjoyed the side characters almost as much as the main characters. They were fleshed out and had purpose. The witty dialogue between G and Wellsy had me laughing on multiple occasions. Their attraction was organic, believable, and down right adorable. I HATE the fake dating trope.... Won't even consider it... Immediately just close the book.. However, this was so done so exquisitely. It wasn't petty or over the top, best of all, it was completely realistic.

I find it very crazy that a book can be so light hearted, funny, and still brush on such serious topics and accomplish it so elegantly. It was the perfect blend of serious yet light.

Finally, a romance that can keep the drama dial below 10. I mean you can have conflict/resolution without DRAMA,DRAMA,DRAMA up the ass and non stop.

I have read quite a few New Adult novels in the recent times but this is probably the first one I had so much fun reading. I laughed a lot and felt so very entertained and happy.

Hannah is a rape survivor and she is a strong, passionate woman who has spent years dealing with the trauma and now wants to do well in college and pursue her dreams. Garrett may be an arrogant hockey captain vying for the national championship, but he is also intelligent, smart, caring, a little insecure because of his own troubled backstory and is trying his best to get out of a bad situation and work hard for a bright future.

I loved the development of their relationship from being indifferent to friends to lovers. They become such great friends and trust each other with their traumas but never judge or walk away. They support each other through tough situations. At the same time, each of them have a life of their own with great friends and also their own passions and ambitions. I also loved the friendships in this book, there is no jealousy or rivalry, just honest supportive trustworthy friends who are great to spend time with.

The best part of the book is definitely the writing. The conversations are full of witty banter and light hearted moments which make this book so much fun. I also liked that the MCs have a traumatic history but the book is about them being survivors and not letting the past overshadow their present or future. The book is also relatively angst free, so I was very happy while reading it (considering I’m usually a crier). I recommend this to anyone who loves a good romance, entertaining dialogue and a great group of friends. ( )

'The Deal' is my second book by Elle Kennedy (I read 'Him' and wasn't fond of it.) This time I like the plot story and the characters.
TW: rape (mentions throughout + flashback scene) and domestic violence/abuse.
While reading the book, I felt that Hannah & Garret are broken souls who found themselves to fix each other and connect the puzzle pieces.
The characters are wonderfully flawed, emotionally scarred, and yet willing to change and grow. Garrett was a great character who really made me laugh. I don’t think this book would have been the same if his character had been altered somehow. As for Hannah, she’s got an inner strength that’s truly inspiring. I love that in helping Garrett, they both begin to learn from one another. Each taking steps into worlds they didn’t ever see themselves venturing before. It’s a delightful romance in which the main couple is both a little broken. I like that the story didn’t feel rushed, and all their issues are resolved by the end.
Looking forward to continuing with the series and other works by Elle Kennedy. I don't understand why it took me so long once again to pick up the book and read it.
