When Digory and Polly try to return the wicked witch Jadis to her own world, the magic gets mixed up and they all land in Narnia where they witness Aslan blessing the animals with human speech.
The first one I read in the series. Found it fascinating to discover the background (I had seen the first movie) and loved knowing who the White Witch was. Kind of hilarious sometimes. Aslan's creation of the world was really neat--and beautiful ( )
Wow I forgot so much. Tells the origin stories of the lamppost, the wardrobe, the white witch, the first kings and queens of narnia, even narnia itself. I am of the camp that believes in publication order. This is fun to read AFTER you are already familiar with the world. ( )
I‘ve started these complete works in audio (33 hours worth) and just finished the first book, The Magician‘s Nephew. I‘d only seen a few of the movies, so it was a complete delight to learn how Narnia came about, and the witch, and the wardrobe! Kenneth Branaugh read the first book and may I say, he did all the different animal voices spectacularly!! I‘m loving it so much so far!! ( )
This was a cute intro into the world and creation of Narnia. The plot was short and sweet but seemed like a nice prequal, not sure, this is the first I read; will have to read the rest. ( )

A terrible thirst and hunger came over him and a longing to taste that fruit. He put it hastily into his pocket; but there were plenty of others. Could it be wrong to taste one? After all, he thought, the notice on the gate might not have been exactly an order; it might have been only a piece of advice - and who cares about advice?
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
For what you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing: it also depends on what sort of person you are.
