S'està carregant… Palace of Treason (2015)de Jason Matthews

No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. At the end of Red Sparrow, I wasn't where Dominika's relationship with Nate was going to go. It seems by the end Dominika has chosen to live in her head as far as that relationship goes. What I mean is that she talks with him and spends time with him only in her head. There is no real-time spent together. Fortunately for her, Nate has been doing the same thing. I'm glad there was the reality of both sleeping with other people, or I probably would have thrown the book aside. But I once again saw that people are pawns and that they are dispensable. For all my complaints, it drew me in and kept me there. I couldn't do anything but listen. Matthews gives us more great characters, fills in more on the existing ones, kills a bunch, and serves it all up with more recipes. This is quickly becoming my favourite spy series ever. The writing is tight, the characterizations are good, the action is fantastic, and the spy work seems authentic. Oh, and he gave Putin a tiny dick. I mean, what more can you ask for? An excellent sequel to Red Sparrow by CIA insider Jason Matthews. Russian spy Dominika Egarova is back at work in Moscow working for the CIA's Nate Nash, working to undermine the usurper, Putin. Meanwhile, there are moles in both countries trying to out the opposition's assets as well as thwart Iran's desire to build nuclear weapons. The biggest battle is between Egarova and her psychotic boss, who has worked his way up from being a torture specialist at Lubyanka prison. Good and mounting suspense, with authentic feel to it. 4.5 stars. I forgot to mention that Matthews continued his signature of ending every chapter with a recipe as there is eating in each chapter. Central and Eastern European or Russian fare mostly. A worthy sequel, but at times too many plot lines to follow, a number of new characters introduced -- and you wonder how long they'll be around -- and a couple of author tricks to help things turn out a certain way. It's interesting that at times even the same characters are almost magically capable, while at others they come close to being hapless. I don't mean this to be as harsh as it sounds; I believe Matthews may be a master at this form. Several characters -- including Simon Benford and Marty Gables -- are pitch perfect. I look forward to The Kremlin's Candidate, the third in the trilogy, due later this year, and the film version of Red Sparrow, reportedly featuring Jennifer Lawrence in the plum role of Dominika. "From the bestselling, Edgar Award-winning author of the "terrifically good" (The New York Times) Red Sparrow, a compulsively readable new novel about star-crossed Russian agent Dominika Egorova and CIA's Nate Nash in a desperate race to the finish. Captain Dominika Egorova of the Russian Intelligence Service (SVR) has returned from the West to Moscow. She despises the men she serves, the oligarchs, and crooks, and thugs of Putin's Russia. What no one knows is that Dominika is working for the CIA as Washington's most sensitive penetration of SVR and the Kremlin. As she expertly dodges exposure, Dominika deals with a murderously psychotic boss; survives an Iranian assassination attempt; escapes a counterintelligence ambush; rescues an arrested agent and exfiltrates him out of Russia; and has a chilling midnight conversation in her nightgown with President Putin. Complicating these risks is the fact that Dominika is in love with her CIA handler, Nate Nash, and their lust is as dangerous as committing espionage in Moscow. And when a mole in the SVR finds Dominika's name on a restricted list of sources, it is a virtual death sentence... Just as fast-paced, heart-pounding, and action-packed as Red Sparrow, Jason Matthews's second novel confirms he is "an insider's insider...and a masterful storyteller" (Vince Flynn, #1 New York Times bestselling author)"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

This series is so amazingly written. The details and depth of knowledge in the spy craft is just top notch. You never doubt for a second that you are RIGHT THERE, making the drop, meeting the double agent... it’s impossible to put down. And of course, the romance between Nate and Dominica is this beautiful, tortured, dark Russian thing. Are they doomed? Maybe. But you can’t help but hope for these two.
