Sixth months into his first term, President Stephen Blades is attempting to salvage his administration from the revelation he received on his Inauguration Day -- an alien presence is building something in the asteroid belt, and the previous president covered it up while sending a manned mission aboard a ship named the Clarke to investigate. Blades has a plan to end the Middle Eastern wars begun by his predecessor, and to start preparing America for the truth about what's coming -- but he's facing serious threats from within his own government and a new, mysterious danger from abroad. Meanwhile, the brave astronauts of the Clarke finally meet the aliens -- but what they learn seems likely to doom the Earth!… (més)

Oh my god, the political story has overtaken the alien story in a good way. I'm far more invested in President Blade's story than the aliens, who turned out to be a bit more generic than I hoped.

It's just getting warmed up, and I think I'm in for a treat in the third volume considering how things are going. ( )

This series is everything I would expect from a sci-fi series. Excellent build up of tension and a "believable" plot that may one day come true...just kidding ( )

I didn't like this as much as I did the previous volume, but I'm still fascinated by the way everyone is dealing with all of this. I could have done without the addition of the soldiers in Afghanistan, mostly because it seemed like that storyline was meant more to tug on my heartstrings than to prove that other countries will fear America's weapons and what they may do with them.
