Title: Archie vs Predator Series: ----- Author: Alex de Campi,& Fernando Ruiz Rating: of 5 Battle Axes Genre: Graphic Novel Pages: 144 Format: Kindle Synopsis: Jughead wins a trip for the group to an exotic resort, where they attract the attention of a young Predator, who follows them back home. A lot of mayhem happens and Betty and Veronica duke it out to the very end. My Thoughts: This was just plain fun. I've always been a fan of the Predator franchise [even the Aliens vs Predator movies] and have the Batman vs Predator I, II AND III in graphic novel form. So when I saw Dantastic's review in my feed and then read Grim's review, well, I had to read this. Watching the characters be true to their original style while getting offed by a Predator struck my funny bone something fierce. And to be honest, watching Bettie and Veronica fight is also always a pleasure. I also found it very amusing to watch the Predators little heads up display. THAT showed some ingenuity on the writers/artists' parts. I had several instances of fist pumping and an exclamatory "Yes!!" on my lips as someone died. The kind of humor shown here was right up my alley and meant for me. I doubt it is for everyone, but anyone who liked Predator is sure to like this. I'm not sure about Archie fans though. I am not an Archie fan and don't even know if that comic is ongoing or what these days. I remember Archie from the 80's and the few times I went to someone's house and they had them lying around and I read them. It was also nice to read a Graphic Novel for a change, instead of a novel, or even manga. The last I read a GN was back in the beginning of '14 and this was great re-introduction. It makes me want to go back and re-read some of the GN's that I own and haven't read in years. In fact, looking at my Graphic Novel shelf, it would appear that just about all the GN's I own I haven't recorded as read or reviewed. Well, I guess that gives me something to aim for. " I received this from Edelweiss and Dark Horse Comics in exchange for an honest review. Honest, this book should have never been printed. It should have never been published. It should have never even been discussed. It is gruesome. It is gory. It contains the ultra-violent deaths over almost all of the favorite characters in Riverdale. I want more. Seriously, this was a clever take on the whole Predator and Archie universes. I wasn't expecting it to be as gory as it was, but the story worked. It felt like a Predator movie, except the main characters were Archie, Veronica, Betty, Jughead, and all the rest. Even Sabrina the Teenage Witch makes an appearance. There were some laugh-out-loud moments at some of the "deaths" (much like watching Paris Hilton's character getting "killed" in the movie, House of Wax). I appreciate the fact that the Archie camp is willing to allow their characters to take part in these crossovers. Even in [b:The Punisher Meets Archie: When Worlds Collide|21951295|The Punisher Meets Archie When Worlds Collide|Batton Lash|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1397938904s/21951295.jpg|41257557] and [b:Afterlife with Archie, Vol. 1: Escape from Riverdale|18339901|Afterlife with Archie, Vol. 1 Escape from Riverdale|Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1437379744s/18339901.jpg|25893269], and now Archie vs Predator, the characters are how we remember them but with the twist of the crossovers. Classic. The end of Archie vs Predator had a few pages of suggested crossovers that artists had taken and created one- or two-page shots: "Sabrina meets Hellboy" and "Archie meets The Mask" (Jim Carrey's movie) are a couple that I'd probably pay to read. Lately, Archie and the gang have been involved in some very strange makeovers and crossovers but Archie vs Predator may get the prize for strangest, sexiest, most violent and goriest of them all. This is definitely not the Archie of my childhood! The gang won a contest to an exotic locale for some surf, sun, and fun. However, in a pique of jealousy, Betty uses an ancient dagger to curse them all bringing a Predator to Riverdale who will kill anyone who is a perceived threat which, as it turns out, is everybody. And, if you think anyone is safe, think again because the big guy has a real predilection for ripping heads off – although, spoiler alert – turns out, this is a teenaged Predator with apparently teenaged hormones and he seems to really enjoy watching Betty and Veronica fight. Not only that but he apparently communicates with emojis which is, I have to say, pretty darn funny albeit a tad creepy. The graphic novel Archie vs Predator is written by Alex De Campi and illustrated by Fernando Rui in the classic Archie style, which kind of heightens the whole WTF factor. Somehow the whole idea seems somehow completely wrong but, c’mon, look at that cover. As Brendan Wright of publisher Dark Horse says in the Afterword, the idea may be completely incongruous but “it was immediately obvious that Archie vs. Predator needed to exist”. Riverdale High is on lockdown while a group of new Predators and Predadogs menace the halls during the Halloween Dance. They're on the search for Archie-Predator and they don't care who stands in their way. It's up to Archie and his pals (both new and old) to stand up to this terrifying threat-but do they have what it takes? No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
