"Coming September 22nd From the worldwide bestselling author of Eat Pray Love: the path to the vibrant, fulfilling life you've dreamed of. Readers of all ages and walks of life have drawn inspiration and empowerment from Elizabeth Gilbert's books for years. Now this beloved author digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective about creativity. With profound empathy and radiant generosity, she offers potent insights into the mysterious nature of inspiration. She asks us to embrace our curiosity and let go of needless suffering. She shows us how to tackle what we most love, and how to face down what we most fear. She discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives. Balancing between soulful spirituality and cheerful pragmatism, Gilbert encourages us to uncover the "strange jewels" that are hidden within each of us. Whether we are looking to write a book, make art, find new ways to address challenges in our work, embark on a dream long deferred, or simply infuse our everyday lives with more mindfulness and passion, Big Magic cracks open a world of wonder and joy"--… (més)

I loved this book. I listened to the book on CD and wish Elizabeth Gilbert would read me a bedtime story every night. She has a beautiful voice. The insight she shared was spot on. I recommend this to anyone, even those without a creative occupation. I'm sure it would be helpful to those who create for a living but those of us who do not also have a innate need to create and be joyful in that process. ( )

OK, I'm the only Elizabeth Gilbert fan out there who hasn't read Eat, Pray, Love. The truth is, she had me at City of Girls.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert is a powerful self-help book (especially for writers!) exploring the nature of creativity and how to wrap your hands around it in your own life. Gilbert goes memoir-style with her own writing experiences to offer powerful observations on the creative process, as well as "personal-experience" advice for overcoming fear and self-doubt. She's funny, she motivates me, and she knows writing. A definite must-read for anyone convinced they're hiding an artist inside. ( )

I loved this book from cover to cover and am in such rapture over it even days after finishing it. This book made me laugh, smile, and a lot of the time if made me think. About who I am and what I want, about whether I am living my life in accordance with the person I want to become and who that person is.

This was an amazingly well done, magic filled, success by Gilbert and it makes me want to go grab up the rest of what she has written and see what is in those, too. (Aside from Eat, Pray, Love, of course, due to finding and falling in love with that years and years ago, 1-2 months right before I moved across the world to Korea.) ( )

Very accessible, and had solid advice. The constant stories about famous (and not-famous) people she'd met started to get pretty tiresome, and her writing voice got pretty grating, but I think it was worth wading through that stuff for the points she makes. ( )

Once upon a time there was a man named Jack Gilbert, who was not related to me - unfortunately for me.
