It had such vividness, brutal yet humane, finely drawn characters and just absolutely word perfect prose, deliciously crafted sentences I wanted to eat with a spoon. However, the book stumbled somewhat down the stretch with a somewhat anticlimactic and overlong denouement. But still, a quality thriller with well above average writing. So it really takes a master to elevate the story to the top of the genre. Saul Black does exactly that. Every single character here is just perfect. I bought into all of it...the troubled, self-destructive cop, the killers, the victims...all of it. I'm not going to say anything else about this except...read this.
