![]() No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. Bloody and with enough grit to supply a sandpaper factory. I read it in an afternoon and am on to the next one soon. This is a bit of a throwback to the 90s serial killer boom but manages to hold its own. Gripping and very well written in the main, I only had two gripes with it: 1) at times it's so horrible and bleak you want to stop reading it (you can't though, it's too gripping) 2) one of the sub plots really loses its way for a while and the book is less satisfying as a result Despite those things, this is a compelling, horribly believable read. I was ready to anoint The Killing Lessons a new classic in the psychological thriller genre about 2/3 of the way through. It had such vividness, brutal yet humane, finely drawn characters and just absolutely word perfect prose, deliciously crafted sentences I wanted to eat with a spoon. However, the book stumbled somewhat down the stretch with a somewhat anticlimactic and overlong denouement. But still, a quality thriller with well above average writing. Wow. I enjoy a good crime thriller, and often it's the characters that sell it. We all see or hear about crime and murder every day. We watch it on TV most weeks. So it really takes a master to elevate the story to the top of the genre. Saul Black does exactly that. Every single character here is just perfect. I bought into all of it...the troubled, self-destructive cop, the killers, the victims...all of it. I'm not going to say anything else about this except...read this. "When the two strangers turn up at Rowena Cooper's isolated Colorado farmhouse, she knows instantly that it's the end of everything. For the two haunted and driven men, on the other hand, it's just another stop on a long and bloody journey. And they still have many miles to go, and victims to sacrifice, before their work is done. For San Francisco homicide detective Valerie Hart, their trail of victims--women abducted, tortured and left with a seemingly random series of objects inside them--has brought her from obsession to the edge of physical and psychological destruction. And she's losing hope of making a breakthrough before that happens. But the murders at the Cooper farmhouse didn't quite go according to plan. There was a survivor, Rowena's ten-year-old daughter Nell, who now holds the key to the killings. Injured, half-frozen, terrified, Nell has only one place to go. And that place could be even more dangerous than what she's running from. In this extraordinary, pulse-pounding debut, Saul Black takes us deep into the mind of a psychopath, and into the troubled heart of the woman determined to stop him"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
