I don't think that this is necessarily a bad book. I think it would be really good for younger people to read, like around the age 12-14. I think this book would be perfect for that age groups.

That being said I feel like a lot of the book is very obvious. I feel like it's all stuff that I have been told time and time again. I don't feel like this offered any unique perspectives on life.

I did like reading the self love section. I thought the activities in that section were pretty good. ( )

This book is a must have and a must read for any teenage girl or guy who has any form of social media, which is, let's face it, a majority of teens out there. It has insightful views on how to stay true to yourself on social media and in real life an features workshops and activities that you can do to practice "showing your true face". It also has relevant quotes in each chapter to help you stay motivated and on task when working your way through the book. The author shares their real life experiences to give you a feel for what happens and what can happen when you wear a mask or a so called "fake face". It was insightful but a touch boring. Although many teens should read the book it is highly unlikely that they will actually do so. Therefore I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

A self help book for the young woman today. This author is open and honest about her own struggles in finding and accepting her True Face. The exercises are short and easy to do yet are powerful. This book is full to only break over 200 pages. Recommend for book club of young woman (maybe 16 to 25) who wants to get a head start on breaking through the mold society creates and being their genuine self. Though the author is British and their are some examples and words of that culture I think everyone, regardless of local can relate. Don't rush the read. Do a chapter/activate a day or every few days to let the impact of them really sink in. ( )

Certainly many messages from the mainstream media and social media create pressure for young people to conform to impossible standards (though the body positivity movement has gained ground in recent years through these same channels), and so Curham's message to reveal one's "true self" and to dream big is worth espousing. But this book is so much nope.

I thought my teenaged daughter and I could read it together, but she ditched with rolling eyeballs and arguments early on. Not even boring miles of interstate could get her to pick it up. I dutifully read True Face as it was a complimentary copy.

The thesis of the book is difficult to discern at first. It seemed to be about creating a positive social media presence while maintaining strong self esteem; it's not. Instead, it's a dream big, self-help book. The intent is way more awesome than the execution.

The organization of sections and chapters, the layout and design, and even the tone scream YA, but the references seem dated. It's hard to imagine adolescents, especially younger ones, identifying with the celebrity examples. At one point Curham writes, "In a recent interview with the fashion website Women's Wear Daily, the supermodel Kate Moss said that she lives her life by the motto, 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.'" That statement came from Moss in 2009, six years before the publication date on this book.

The book did grow on me. I'm glad Curham reframes exercise as something that could and should be enjoyable. Some of the journaling activities Curham asks readers do to help uncover what brings joy are insightful.

Still, it's hard to imagine this book hitting the targeted audience of YA. I can't even see it as a New Adult book. Even so, I'm 100% down with the section on public hair.

I think that everyone should read this (adults included). There's a lot of information about how to live your best life, and it manages to give that advice without sounding hackneyed or cliché. There's something useful for everyone in here, and I highly recommend
