Apunta't a LibraryThing per saber si aquest llibre et pot agradar. No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. Well, I tried. I read Kept a while back, and it wasn't the worst. Plus, I know that Banks sells a lot of books and people seem to like them? But I don't understand how someone who doesn't seem to LIKE women would write romances for them. The casual misogyny in this book in just a few pages got to me. I thought that I'd check out the sexytimes scenes and see if they did it for me, but nah. I meant to put examples from the book of the kind of bullshit in this really unappealing story, but then I couldn't be arsed. I did not finish this book, but I'm going to put a finished date on this so it goes on my Reading Challenge and count it as a reward for getting through as much of this horrible, mean, misogynistic mess as I did. Drake likes control, he's used to a certain type of woman and all his women are submissive. Evangeline goes to his club at the urging of her friends to show her snake of an ex what he gave up. When the situation gets ugly Drake and his people rescue her and Drake wants her and what Drake wants he gets. As fantasy it's hot, reality would make Drake a bit stalkerish. Very intense, right up to the end, it reminded me a bit of '50 Shades of Grey' and Lorelei James Mastered series. Well there are things I enjoyed about this book and things I didn't. This book is the typical dominant male/submissive female trope that is popular these days. Maya Banks is better at BDSM than most so that isn't a bad one for her to write. I liked Evangeline's character a lot actually but she didn't entirely too much introspection during the book. I found myself skipping some of her long-winded thoughts to get back to action. I also liked Damon because he is passionate and doesn't lie to her. He lays it all out there and let's her decide if she wants it or not. There are a couple things I did not like in this book. First off, the ending. I HATE CLIFFHANGERS. This book just stops...there is not a happily for now either. I hate cliffhangers. Next, what was that ending...I know that this isn't the end of the story by that cliffhanger and by Ms. Bank's letter to the readers but it seems with how much power Damon is tossing around left and right he might have been able to handle the ending confrontation so much better than that. I would have had the same reaction if I was Evangeline too...and I would have taken his balls with me. Enjoyable read, sexy, and perfectly reminiscent of Ms. Bank's style...BUT THAT ENDING...nope. It started off a bit slow, it felt like teenage drama going on and I was wondering what this would turn out to be. And at some point in the book I almost lost interest and just when I was thinking about giving it up, my senses awaken again and pace was picked up.
It’s plot and the writing style is different from most of the books within the same genre I have read so far and I find that refreshing and satisfying. I really loved the mystery behind it, just when you think you’re on to something you realize you have no idea and have to keep reading and chase after the truth and conclusion.
I loved how Drake’s and Evangeline’s relationship went from lust at first sight to some deeper meaning that was so unknown for them both but so needed and welcomed. What brought a smile to my face was also how his men, his brothers, his friends that were assigned to protect Evangeline and act like her bodyguards developed their own relationships to her and were swept away just like Drake was. There was a beautiful and playful connection that was well needed to the story’s quality and made it so much sweeter and meaningful.
And of course I knew something had to happen to blow it all up like an atomic bomb. But I did NOT see this cliff coming!!! My chest was tightening, my heart was breaking, my soul was crying :( Trust was lost, dreams were crushed, and hopes were shattered! Blossoming love was broken into thousand pieces. I can’t wait for book 2 to see how this drama will be resolved. I was a little sad to see that book two and three were suppose to be about his men but hopefully those books will be written as well a girl can only hope!
WELL DONE, WELL DONE!!!!
