My Mini-Review:
Round three of the Forbidden Plays series is just as hot and just as fresh as the preceding two reads but has a little extra bonus, a second chance at love romance. You’re intrigued now, aren’t you?
Holly Masters emerged from her divorce heartbroken yet determined. In the year and a half since she left Clay Masters, quarterback for the Wildcats, she has never ceased loving him but has become a far more confident and capable woman. She completed her law degree and now works as a part of the council team for the Wildcats. Seeing Clay on a regular basis isn’t ideal but Holly is a professional and her current assignment is to the man to sign his contract thus securing his next few years with the Wildcats.
Clay Masters is a top-ranked quarterback and though he wants to stay with the Wildcats, seeing Holly is just too damn hard. Clay is convinced his best course of action is to take an offer from another team until he unexpectedly finds a letter written by Holly before their divorce. Instead of signing his contract when he walks into the Wildcats’s office, Clay kicks everyone out and begins negotiations with Holly. Clay agrees to sign his contract if and only if Holly will spend one night with him. Given her boss’s position on losing Clay to another team, Holly has no choice but to agree to Clay’s terms. One night it is!
Clay and Holly’s night starts with some seriously dirty dancing and ends with some truly spectacular orgasms. Clay is blown away by Holly’s newfound confidence and lack of inhibitions and Holly is once again reminded of how good she and Clay were together. The only problem? Clay and Holly had some serious issues that led to their divorce and if they can just get beyond the old hurts they may have a chance at happily ever after.
The Bottom Line: Second chance romances are always a good read and when you throw in some really steamy sex well, the read just gets even better. Holly and Clay are totally meant to be together but the life of a professional ball player is hard and circumstances (some real and some not!) led to a bitter separation that left them both reeling. In just 63 short pages, Dawson creates an entire story (and backstory!) for two truly likeable characters. It can often be difficult for an author to fully develop characters in such a short read but Dawson has no problem doing so. In fact, Holly and Clay aren’t just fully developed characters they are characters who have evolved and become exactly what they need to be for one another in this second chance romance. Nothing feels unfinished or left undone and in fact, this is one pretty sweet HEA. :) ( )
