This is a good read for teens, but I enjoyed it as an adult and recommend it for both age groups. It deals with a lot of real life issues—being poor; being one of those kids wrapped up in a fantasy book or series that makes you look weird to the popular crowd; having parents that don't protect you like they should; making decisions for your future; friendships; gun violence; being unpopular; depression; death and more. Even though there are so many great YA books out now, something about this felt unique to me. I believe I may have dropped a tear or two. I definitely felt emotional.
The story is about three outcasts, best friends, high school seniors. They are trying to make it though some tough life situations and find their future selves. ( )

I had this book for a year and a half from an owlcrate subscription book. I also don't understand why it took me so much time to read. Thanks, Julie, from pages & pens and Chelsea from Chelseadollingreads.
A book with fantastic writing and even better friendships. This book had physical and verbal abuse. It is a story of seniors in a small town in Tennessee. Well, the truth I thought this book would be more Christian, but the truth, I was surprised that it had little to with it. Please read the book without knowing a lot. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.
I know that I will read everything, Jeff Zentner will write. It a fantastic debut novel; it is the first time I want to read the book as soon as I finished it. But I want to read the paperback with the quote on the cover, and this time I will annotate this book while rereading for the second time. ( )

I read this in print. In and out, till I didn't put it down (about 60-100%). I really cared for this trio. Though they were all extraordinary, they also ring very true.

Basically, I loved it.

This was... weird. It felt somewhat off-balance? Out of whack? The different plotlines and arcs just felt very disjointed to me. Overall, there were things I enjoyed about this, but they never really came to the forefront. ( )

Beautifully written. Powerfully moving. Characters I felt I knew. An atmosphere so real I could taste it, smell it and feel it suck me under. I have to say, I go into reading YA expecting to be entertained, and sometimes slightly moved, but rare is the moment when a YA book like this can touch me so deeply. It isn't a knock against YA, it is just I am a jaded, and nihilistic old ass adult. LOL. In any case, I can't wait to read more of Zetner's writing.

PS. This is heading to my favorites shelf. ( )
