Happy Birthday, Cupcake! (edició 2015)

This is the cutest freakin' book I've ever read. ( )

Cupcake can't decide what kind of birthday party to throw in this picture-book from Terry Border, the moving force behind the Bent Objects blog, in which cleverly positioned objects are photographed as part of storytelling tableaux. Fortunately for our worried desert heroine, her friend Muffin is there to provide feedback, and eventually, to lead her to a surprise party...

On the one hand, I do appreciate the craft displayed by Border, in his creation of Happy Birthday, Cupcake! I also appreciated some of the visual puns (the pat of butter being used in the depiction of the butterfly being a favorite). On the other hand, I felt mostly indifferent to both the story and the artwork (although I did finish the book with a craving for a cupcake). I don't usually care for these humorous photo-illustrative type books, but I thought I'd give this one a try, when it came into work. Not really my cup of tea, but it might work for a child who enjoys silly stories, or for those looking for birthday-themed picture-books. ( )
