The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they've always known -- and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul. Mare Barrow's blood is red -- the color of common folk -- but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control. The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince -- the friend -- who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind. Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat. Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?… (més)

Unlike the first one, thankfully, The Glass Sword had no hardcore romance.
It was better than its prequel in quite a number of ways, be it violence, (whining), storyline or plot environment. Reading this made me feel this series can have a killer thriller-powerplay potential. Nevertheless, it did not stand out as a book. If at all the book were to be remembered, it would be done so as one of the the successors in an ultra-exaggerated dystopian romance series, Red Queen. What I mean to say is, there's no weight to the story captured in this book; neither the language or plotline hypes me up. Looking from the third person view, I would think it an-almost pass for a middle-comer in a famous book series. That's it. It is the type of book which would have made seriously no profit without the fame of its predecessors. Literally.
Although it wasn't so vivid through this book, by the time I finished it and began with the next one in line, my head already knew the story was dragging out. No offense author, but from what I have read of the series until now (that is, half-ish of King's Cage), I suggest this work would have been an even better success had it come out as one installment. A single book series; well, as one book.
Never mind, good luck with your future endeavors author. ( )

These days I don't have time for books that don't grab me. A friend was getting rid of it along with some other books. I thought I'd read a chapter or two and if I liked it, I'd get the first book in the series and start from the beginning of the series.

Unfortunately, it written in first person--not my favorite so, Strike One. And it's written in present tense. I LOATHE present tense in fiction. Strike Two. I read a few pages from the first chapter and it didn't grab me. It seems that it was picking up where the previous book ended, that's fine. But again, it didn't grab me. I skipped ahead to read more pages about a quarter into the book, then halfway, then three-quarters of the way through. Nope.

I just wasn't feeling it.

So, I went onto Amazon and read the first chapter of The Red Queen. (the first in the series). I liked it a lot more. I read some of the reviews and the consensus seems to be that the first book is ok and it goes downhill from there.

Therefore, I consign this book to the discard pile. ( )

This book was very slow at the start. It was good 60% until something exciting really started happening. Then it kept happening and happening, and got more and more exciting. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for it.

Victoria Aveyard is still amazing at endings. This one was so well written, though not as utterly stunning and devastating of that of [b:Red Queen|22328546|Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)|Victoria Aveyard|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1449778912l/22328546._SY75_.jpg|25037051]. Red Queen also took off running while this one had quite the slow start. I'm very excited to read [b:King's Cage|30226723|King's Cage (Red Queen, #3)|Victoria Aveyard|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1467121158l/30226723._SY75_.jpg|42721001] though, especially because of the ending.

I also found it hard keeping all of the characters straight. There are a lot of them with similar names and it's been since before I started Goodreads that I've picked up anything in the series. But I did not feel like I missed out on everything. I was able to get them straight in the end and was fully invested by the end.

In conclusion, I just wish this book had gotten to the good part a lot quicker than it did because the start was boring and nearly painful to get through, but once it got good, it got good. Very good. Like "I feel really bad for the beginning and the potential this book had" good. Because if the whole book had been like that last bit it would have blown me away, I can feel it. Hopefully one of the next installments does this. ( )
