Ruby is a duck who is a late bloomer, her egg hatches after all her siblings, she begins eating after all her siblings, she began swimming after all her siblings, etc. Ruby's mother lets Ruby hit these milestones, "in her own time." The repetition of Ruby's mother saying "in her own time," adds emphasis on the fact that individuality is key and it is important not to push Ruby, and to let her be her own person, or in this case duck. I like the message in this story. My daughter has anxiety about many things and needs to know that going at her a own pace is ok. Hearing me say it doesn't seem to be enough.this book and the takeaway message were perfect for a child like her who needs to know that they'll get to do something, in their own time. ( )

This is a lovely story about a duckling named Ruby who is what could be considered a late bloomer. It was really sweet how the mother never tried to rush her but instead always said "in her own time" when Ruby would be slower than the others. It has a great lesson about growing up and maturing at different times, that it's not a negative thing but can turn out better in the end. ( )

Ruby, is the last one to hatch. She is developing a little slower then the others, but when it comes down to flying she is the best one. This was a very cute book. It would also teach people to never give up because it will happen one day at your own pace. ( )
