Adam and his family moved from a country in Africa to a big city. Though he appreciates his new home, Adam of course feels a bit homesick and is too shy to approach the children in his neighborhood to make friends. However, a friendship between Adam and his neighbors blossoms one snowy day and their relationship continues to bloom once school starts up. I enjoyed this book and the way the intended audience could be for children like Adam or children who come across the "Adams" around us. "The Seeds of Friendship," displays effortless inclusion and the effect a kind act could have on the people around us...even when we do not realize it. ( )

Adam, a new child to this country, greatly misses his homeland. One day he becomes amazed with frost on all of the windows of his home and that night he witnesses his first snowfall. He was feeling down and alone being in a new country. When he woke one day to a winter wonderland he was thrilled that children flocked to him as he made snow animals instead of snowmen. He then is excited as he see's some of his newly made friends at his new school, where he discovered his favorite place, the garden because it broke up the gray of the city. To his delight, his teacher gave him seeds, with which he started his own garden at home, which his friends helped him to expand. Eventually, both the garden at school and his own garden flourished so he and his friends took additional seeds to plant throughout the city, creating a "city of gardens" that overtook the "gray world" that used to upset him. In the end, he and his new friends have transformed the city and his new home into a pleasurable location for Adam and everyone in the city. ( )

A lovely work showcasing how much one person can do and the many ways in which children work together to envision something so much better than adults could. I enjoyed seeing how Max warmed to a cold new place and made it his own. ( )

This is a sweet story about finding friendship and a sense of belonging. A young boy has moved to the city where the buildings make it feel grey and bleak. He desperately misses the rich colors of his home faraway. After one teacher gives him seeds, Adam finds a way to make the city feel more like home. As the plants grow, friendships begin to bloom as well. A cute book about making an unfamiliar place feel like home. ( )

"The Seeds of Friendship" revolves around a young boy who has found himself in a new city much different than where he comes from. He finds the city very dull and gray in contrast with his home which is full of vibrant colors. He is also having trouble finding friends to understand what he is going through. The boy is given seeds by a teacher and decides to plant them. These seeds not only allow some of his homeland to grow in his new home, but help him to grow new friendships.
This would be a wonderful book to read with children about empathy and the happiness friendship can bring. ( )
