There is only one way we can "hear" such phrases as "For unto us a child is born" or "I know that my redeemer liveth" - and that is to listen to the haunting notes of George Frideric Handel. All the words of Messiah are, of course, taken straight from the Bible, in the familiar language of the King James Version. In this book David Winter uses those same words to provide a devotional and meditative guide to the text of Messiah, section by section. We simply take it for granted that we know what these familiar words are meant to say to us. But in fact the text of Messiah is a finely constructed piece of biblical interpretation, selected by Charles Jennens, Handel's collaborator. It brings together worship, prophecy, narrative, and vision to weave a wonderful picture of our redemption. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
