I hear screams in my head. I see blood on my hands. When I look in the mirror I see a stranger. How is it that I can remember bits and pieces of my life, but nothing of any importance and nothing that makes any sense? Everything is twisted and nothing is right. I'm choking with every breath I take, suffocating on the unknown. Two days ago, everything changed. Two days ago, the people I should trust the most became strangers in my convoluted head. The dreams I have can't be real. The fleeting memories that whisper through my mind are scary and wrong...they have to be. If they aren't, I have something much worse to fear than my fractured mind. I need to find out the truth, even if it destroys me. I've been told my name is Ravenna Duskin. I'm eighteen years old and I live in a prison.… (més)

Tara Sivec is known for her sassy Rom-Com books. She writes sexy, funny, sweet romance books that make you giggle and also clutch your pearls. Her characters are always fun, colorful, and drool-worthy. With more than 20 books under her fabulous belt, Tara Sivec has probably written something that will curl your hair. Personal recommendation: The Summersweet Series. Swoon!

”Nothing will ever be the same again.”

Holy. Hell. In. A. Hand. Basket. I know Tara Sivec as a rom-com writer... but this is anything but romantic or funny. This book is dark. It’s twisted. It will make your jaw hit the floor.

After suffering an accident, Ravenna is suffering from memory loss. She can’t remember what happened to her. She can’t remember how it happened. She can’t remember her parents. She can’t remember why she is filled with rage and a burning desire to get revenge.

I was not expecting this book from Tara Sivec. Tara Sivec is pretty much the epitome of sunshine, rainbows, and glitter. This story was good. It was scary, intense; this book is dark. And as the confusion clears and the clouds lift, things start to make sense; you start to see the puzzle pieces falling into place.

This book blows my mind. It’s so well done. I did not see the twist coming—the twists. I did not see anything so brutal coming. This is well done. It’s well-executed. The plot is fast past and intense. And once things start clicking in place, and once the story starts making sense, all you can do is keep reading.

This is a devastatingly sad story. In so many ways. The betrayal that starts in the beginning and tragic happenings that are held against the most innocent. The spiraling within this tale will break your heart. And then the understanding will kick you while you’re down. There are no happily ever after to be found in this book. But there is dark resolve. Let me start off by saying this is NOT a love story. No love story entwined where the two will run off in the sunset holding hands. This is not full of rainbows and unicorns that will make you smile. Not. At. All.

What this story is is a dark thrilling mystery. It is pure torture. From the moment you start to read this book, you will be confused. You will insist on knowing what the heck is happening and why. Be patient young grasshopper, all good things come to those who wait. You will get some answers, you will figure out most of what is going on.... Then, well, then the fun begins.

This story is about a girl who lives in a prison. She has visions or flashbacks of her life that make no sense. Her gut feelings make no sense. Her parents make no sense. Are you noticing a theme here?

I couldn't put this book down. I wanted to figure out the clues on my own. I did figure a few things out, but they didn't make any sense to me, so I knew they were wrong. They couldn't be right because then I would be even more lost. Are you understanding me? Am I making sense?

If you are a dark psychological thriller junkie like me, you are going to love this book. If you are looking for something to torture your soul, definitely read this book. If you are looking for a page-turning, you can't put the book down kind of story, read this one. If you are looking for something to kill all of the unicorns and wipe away all of the rainbows you have recently been reading, read this book. Basically, just read this book. ( )

Why I picked that quote: It really sets the theme of this whole book…

☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠

Overall Rating: 4/5 mind-completely-fucked Stars

✧Breakdown of Rating✧

•Plot: 4/5 Deeply disturbing at times, but still intensely riveting. The pacing was fierce.
•Characters: 4/5 Oddly likable…and unlikable at the same time.
•Theme: 2/5 Not sure that this book is going for a good theme and all…
•Flow: 5/5 Reads really well, I couldn’t put it down for the last half of the book.
•Originality: 5/5 I’ve never read anything like this.
•Book Cover: 3/5 It’s OK, it could have been better.
•The Feels: 5/5. Not the lovey dovey kind though.
•Sex Factor: Not really any.
•Ending: 3.5/5 Freaked me out…that prologue was seriously demented. Cliffhanger: No
•Will I read more from this author: I’ve read on other’s reviews that this is not her usual kind of genre, so I might.

My Thoughts:

I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into with this book, the synopsis made it seem like it was different than my usual fare…and in that aspect it was. I found it a little freaky and I’m not sure how I feel about it as a whole. That’s why my stars have a special name (mind-completely-fucked). ( )

My original Bury Me audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

“My name is Ravenna Duskin, I’m 18 years old, I live in a prison and I’m pretty sure I’m not a good girl.”

The words keep ringing in your ears until the end of this creepy, dark, shivering book and the moment you’ve learned it and you too are repeating them, things take a huge 360 degree turn, the world around the story, everything that you had possibly imagined, all the dark thrillers you must have read take on a new direction with Tara Sivec’s mind-numbingly awesome thriller.

Don’t be fooled, the characters are pitiful, hateful and more or less annoying and yet you will end up with a wicked smile on your face. But to get all the chills, all you have to do is stick to it until the end, gather up all the pieces and have questions in your mind which will be answered, even the questions you wouldn’t have thought of.

Set in the 1960’s, a girl named Ravenna Duskin wakes up to a head injury and all she has been told by her parents seems out of place, totally wrong. How could their parents not know their daughter who has been with them for about 18 years? Everything that her Mom does is wrong, Ravenna hates it when she is told how she makes her hair, how she dresses up, who is her best friend? All Ravenna wants is to know the truth. All she wants to know is what happened on the night of the accident, why was she running in the woods, what had happened to scare her off so bad that her parents wouldn’t tell her about that night. Well my friend, just read this pretty thing and you are definitely bound to the edge of your seat while Tara Sivec takes you on an extra-ordinary journey of a messed up girl.

The narration by Stephanie Willis is a little high-pitched, sometimes annoying, especially when Ravenna is yelling but you’ll get used to it and to be true, the characters needs such a voice. Besides that, all the other characters are given a slight variation in the voice with brilliant chuckles and giggles when required. Overall, the production and the narration were good.

Excellent short psychological thriller, highly recommended.
