I found this book very boring but I think I'm just too old to enjoy it. ( ![]() Loved every part sometimes what happens to our ancestors/descendants all have a meaning and reason but if you're given the chance to fix it become a better version of you take it Fun YA novel. The thought process of this book is that you take a boy who has been bad, and make his dig holes all day long in the hot sun, which makes him into a good boy. This is the philosophy of Camp Green Lake a juvenile correction center. The boys are stuck in this cycle for the entirety of their sentence. I read this with my 11-year-old son. We both enjoyed it, but he didn't loooove it or have any interest in it in the first place. I wanted to read it with him because I'd read that it had good moral messages or something. It turned out to be quite funny and touching and uplifting. Some plot points bothered my son for being too coincidental, but I was amused by the way certain events tied in together and worked out. Some of the more dire circumstances in the book were also emotionally disturbing to my sensitive son, but we pressed on and he soon forgot about them. I am glad that I read this with my son so that we could have conversations about the characters, their behavior, the situations. If I had made him read it on his own, he wouldn't have done any critical thinking or examined any moral lessons from the story. This is one of those books that I hope sticks with my son through life, and I hope he has a growing appreciation for it when he's older. It is an entertaining and thought-provoking read.
