Current events book by an author I've never heard of before. Apparently he's a radio talk show host. He claims to have a PhD from Cal in nutritional ethnomedicine. Not sure what that is exactly. He says it's pretty important. He says that it gives him special authority about political science and religion later in the book. Basically Savage's book thesis is that there is an unintentional conspiracy to rule the world being led by moneyed elites. So, surprise, conspiracy theory is what's up.
He says that the west(ern countries) has no soul (p. 156). The West is in the process of handing over whatever freedoms they still possess. Later on he argues that the US has to fight back to regain it's original fervor and not become assimilated into world Government Zero. He links up his three main protagonists as Obama (with help from the current batch of Republicans) Marxist progressives, Islamofascists and the Pope. So this book was a good read since I got to read an current anti-Catholic. This book also gave me a reason to reread some of Pope Francis' work, especially Laudato Si.
Savage says that Francis by endorsing climate change is a socialist. Savage says he himself was an environmental activist trying to save the rain forests earlier in his career (mentioned offhand, no citation). He says that the Catholic Church was co-opted by the federal government when it was given billions of dollars to help usher in millions of illegal aliens "because they need the pews filled with illiterates from Central America." (p. 208) Savage says that Francis is using his office to promote a political movement rather than a religious issue. Savage also calls Francis Lenin's Pope. He wishes there was an impeachment process for Popes who mislead others, as he claims Francis does now (p. 222).
Savage doesn't seem to know anything about Catholicism even as he condemns it. He doesn't know that the Pope only speaks for Roman Catholics, and if the world accepts it, as a moral voice of Humanity's longest standing institution. Whatever the Pope says is impressed on no one who does not claim Catholicism as their own decided religious tradition. What Francis says about climate change is not meant to decide the issue once and for all Catholics. The Encyclical is meant to help reflection by the Roman Church on the current situation from perspective of Gospel values.
Savage lacks needed tools to evaluate current events without resorting to conspiracy theories. Savage seems to think, wrongly, that by saying Francis is politicizing the work of the Church, Savage can be a voice stating anti-Catholic views and not be answered back with any sound arguments.
This book is not worth the time it takes to read because this author hasn't thought out what it is he's trying to say. He hasn't even bothered to ask a Catholic about what the Church really believes and why.
Savage lists 40 actions to save America. So, he's given up on the rest of the world and settles for America 'saved' if people would only buy and read his book and do then what he says. Why didn't he give his book out for free, if he cares so much for America?
