The real attraction of this disc is the singing of Ms Lott: never did anyone more desreve the name Felicity. The four songs (all orchestrated by Strauss) are Freundliche Vision, Meinem Kinde, Das Baechlein, and Morgen.
Meanwhile, the Alpine Symphony is, well, as little as I like the concept and despite its dense texture, most charitably considered as background music: wonderfully pleasing sonorities -- and almost nothing else, no drama, no interesting structure, no poetry. This isn't completely surprsing, as it was a product of that strange mid-passeg of Strauss' life wherein he composed essentially nothing memorable until the crisis-years of the Second World War when he regained his voice, and indeed then created some of the greatest music of the century.
