Heartwarming and fun, but also provides an excellent reminder that it's important to look outside of ourselves from time to time. My kids loved the format and how the author built excitement in the mundane, they could not wait to find out what happens next after each chapter. ( )

Ravi has recently immigrated to America with his family and is finding it hard to fit into his fifth-grade class. Joe has lived at the same time all his life and is finding it hard to fit into fifth-grade as his best friends have moved away. With both of them being picked on by the biggest bully in their class, Joe and Ravi become friends and decides to take on this hardship together. This would be a great book for students in upper elementary. ( )

This book includes Joe and Ravi who are new friends who live in the same town and go to the same school, Ravi just moved to America from India and is trying to make friends and figure out how to fit in, Joe and Ravi bond over having the same enemy (a bully). The way I would connect this in the classroom is using this as a way to help the students to make friends and stand up to bullies. It is a good book to use in grades 4-8 especially on the first day of school. I really liked this book and it would really be useful in the classroom to help the student’s bond with each other. It would be a good book for any content area. ( )

Joe and Ravi might be from very different places, but they're both stuck in the same place: school. Joe's lived in the same town all his life, and was doing just fine until his best friends moved away and left him on his own. Ravi's family just moved to America from India, and he's finding it pretty hard to figure out where he fits in. Joe and Ravi don't think they have anything in common, but soon enough they have a common enemy (the biggest bully in their class) and a common mission: to take control of their lives over the course of a single crazy week. This book is unique because it is written by two authors; collaborating on each chapter and discussing which direction the story should go next. It is about two boys. Joe is an American living in New Jersey. Home life is not great, he has some learning difficulties, and is having difficulty adjusting to life without his best friends who recently moved away. Ravi is from India. His dad got a job in New Jersey and Ravi is learning to adjust to living in America. The antagonist in the story is Dillon Samreen - an American Indian. Ravi thinks they will be new best friends until he realizes that Dillon is the school bully. In a series of events. Ravi and Joe find out that they have something in common - dealing with a school bully. The story is relatable for many students and the characters develop fully over the course of the book. The reader learns about the Indian culture, living life with disabilities, family problems, and dealing with unkind people. It is a GREAT read!
