This was the best out of the three! The ending was great. Everything wrapped up so perfectly. I already miss Kell, Lila, Rhy, and Alucard. This definitely wasn't my favorite series, but it was so enjoyable. ( )

So, a solid three stars because the writing was solid. As for the rest - I felt like I had already read this book. Twice, even.

No new character-building (though I really appreciated a queer-character taking the stage without much fuss). No big surprise. No energy in the culminating conflict. No hype in the conclusion. The plot just kept dragging its feet until it had nothing left to do but stop.

Because the series is well-written and the first two books flow really well, I would still recommend this series. I think it's probably exactly the sort of thing some folks are looking for. I'm just too in love with literary fantasy to be one of those people.

Magic, blood, possession, kings, queens, thieves, pirates and heroics. My kind of book and a great end to the trilogy. It made me both happy and sad. ( )

I feel like the book has a lot of loose ends. Having said that, the writing is brilliant and it's one of the very few series where I do not actively loathe any characters. ( )
