I'll put it in my "like" pile, but I'm not buying it for the kiddo. ( ) This is a book about a little cloud named Gale who is trying to learn how to make typical clouds like cumulus, cirrus. But she can only make clouds that are shaped like what she dreams about and she comes to terms with that that is what her calling is for making daydream clouds. This book is a good use of imagery to accompany the illustrations in this novel of the clouds and characters. This book was very cute and had wonderful illustrations that were actually based on Pixar animation. The story talked about cloud formations and described them briefly while talking about how clouds can be watched and used to find their shapes. I would use this book for any grade to talk about clouds and introduce their various shapes and formation names. This can be a part of a weather unit. This book is a good example of fiction because it takes the real world elements of clouds and brings them to life with a world and mind of their own! The beautiful and big illustrations are made from what looks like watercolors and was part of a Pixar animation artist showcase. depicts cloud people, focusing on a girl that is trying to graduate formation school with a formation of a cloud that she is proud of. she went to take her test and she could only form shapes of things she has seen below on earth. she thought she failed her test but the oldest cloud guardian told her that she was special and was meant to make clouds of different earth shapes. 6 books I picked this up because the art caught my eye. And then I found out that it was a book Pixar/Disney Press created. It definitely shows both in the storytelling and in the art. It's the story of a little cloudlet named Gale. She's up for her cloud test, and is so scared. She can't seem to make any of the cloud shapes/types expected of her. When she stands for her test, she tries her hardest, but just can't do it. Instead, all the clouds she creates look like real shapes. that could be spotted down on the earth below like dogs or tugboats. It turns out she is a dream cloud maker, extremely rare and special. She is encouraged to create what she is good at and bring inspiration to those of us down on the land below. I found myself crying by the end of the book. I thought it was beautiful the way her disappointment transformed her into something so cherished who could bring happiness to us all, just as this book did. Very sweet and beautifully illustrated!
