Reprint edition of this central document in colonial American history dealing with Indian relations and the wars of the early eighteenth century, written by a political and religious New Hampshire leader. Penhallow's record of ""memorable occurrences"" consisted largely of a ""narrative of tragical incursions perpetrated by bloody pagans, who are monsters of . . . cruelty . . . . Who are as implacable in their revenge, as they are terrible in the execution of it; and will convey it down to the third and fourth generation."" As such it remains an essential contemporary account of strife with the natives and of their eventual ""submission."" Includes an appendix of documents concerning the Pequot Wars, with Gardener's narrative of the ""Pequot Warres"" and related documents. 2006: 174 pages, softcover.
