Excellent story of kindness and friendship transcending racial divides and enduring over time. This story takes place from the 1920s throughout most of the 20th century. The author writes in a way that makes the land and people of South Africa come alive for the reader, even if you have never traveled to South Africa yourself. Mrs. Cath loves her housemaid's child, Ada, as if Ada were her own daughter. Through the eyes of both women, the reader experiences historical events and racial issues that surfaced in Craddock. Several surprising twists and turns in the plot make this a fascinating and engaging story. What an inspiring read! I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction.
