Wowza. I love this volume; my favorite yet. It started off a bit disjointed since the last volume ended with the world ending, and this one starts with the world past that. (Apparently there were things going on at the Marvel editorial board level that started this series from number one again, even though the continuity hadn't changed? Ugh, stupid editorial board.) Though the crucial things that happened during that non-event still has repercussions, and Kamala isn't sure how to handle it all. Particularly Bruno's new girlfriend.

Oh, and she's now an Avenger. I'm not sure how that happened...

Anyway, Kamala has to juggle school, Ms. Marvel stuff, being an Avenger, and family commitments. And it turns out... badly, to put it mildly. There's also a shady redevelopment corporation moving into Jersey City, but really, the big thing is her getting in way over her head because the girl just can't say no.

It's fantastic. I loved Mike, and hope to see more of her. Also, I hope Kamala makes up with her friend Nakia soon. ( )

It was a mistake to wrap up the cliffhanger from Volume 4 into another comic series, or at least to set Volume 5 so many months after. It's a jarring tonal shift, and it's just not the same. I didn't care for the Avengers stuff (but I suspect that's my own personal biases at play). I did, however love Aamir's storyline and the inclusion of Mike. I think, though, that Nakia has been put off to the back burner so long that I feel that she's been poorly served in the story--or at least, not given an opportunity to grow in the same way that Bruno has. If this series continues to require me to read other comic series, I'll have to stop. It's such a shame, too. ( )

Another fun, satisfying installment! One of the better ones too, I think, because it struck the right balance between Kamala’s two identities and between serious action and complete silliness. I realized reading this volume that I like Kamala for the same reasons I like Peter Parker: she’s got a lot going on, is the scrappy underdog, and somehow manages to be very smart and very … not at the same time.

I really liked that Wilson’s pushing Kamala emotionally forward, and other characters too. I think Kamala grows up more than she has in any other volume actually, because the stuff she’s having to learn and unlearn is heavy. But then, there’s also “Kamala fights a giant frog” and “let’s use Loki’s magic to make my life easier, it’ll be fine” so this is still very much a Marvel comic. Also Iron Man has cameos, so that’s fun.

I also felt like this volume hangs together as an independent story more than some of the others. Sure, you’ll get more out of it if you’ve read Volumes 1 through 4, but there’s a bit more of a set beginning, middle, and end in this one. And there are new and awesome characters!

Unfortunately, this is hit with pretty much the same complaint I have with any graphic novel: I read through it too quickly to make many proper impressions, or get any of those “hot damn” moments I want in a really good book. But this is pretty great, as comics go, all the same!

To bear in mind: I got nothin’.

Awww. Seriously. This volume brings back all the things I love about this comic series. We have Kamala interacting with her family more and we get the explanation of Arabic words and meanings. The volume ends on a good note which I won't complain about. And heck it even had me like Tony Stark (yeah still mad about Civil War).

It's been eight months since the last volume. I'll eventually go find the issues that had Kamala off with the Avengers but not right now. I'm trying to finish all my library borrows since they are all due this week. Kamala is part of the Avengers but feels overwhelmed by superheroing in Jersey City and elsewhere as well as keeping up with school and family events.

This volume has Kamala coming to a realization about Bruno and they both finally (thank goodness) let each other go as love interests I think. Bruno rightfully decides to not wait for Kamala to not be too busy for him. Though Kamala responds jealously to Bruno moving on. Thank on the volume gets better when we move to Aamir deciding he is to marry an African American Muslim named Tyesha. Tyesha won me over with the Dune references. I love that Wilson also includes details on how some Pakistani Muslim would have certain prejudices against darker skin Muslims. I had no idea.

When the two families meet hilarity ensues but all parties agree to let the two marry. Due to this and Avengers missions Kamala is feeling run down and then after a mission multiple Kamala's start to appear.

Honestly this volume is about Kamala trusting herself and also asking for help. I would have thought she got that out of her system before, but now since she is part of a team she is trying to prove herself all over again.

We get appearances from the Avengers and I cracked up at Tony Stark and Carol Danvers showing their mutual disdain for each other. What comes through though is that Tony cares for and loves Kamala though so I went awww a few times. ( )

I can't say that Ms. Marvel is handling fame too well. But then, I suppose there wouldn't be too much of a story if she COULD. :)

Others will take advantage of her, of course, but no one can get her to say NO. Sigh. Overworked and ambitious kid. :)
