2 March 1810 ... Today, I fell in love. At the age of ten, Miranda Cheever showed no signs of Great Beauty. And even at ten, Miranda learned to accept the expectations society held for her--until the afternoon when Nigel Bevelstoke, the handsome and dashing Viscount Turner, solemnly kissed her hand and promised her that one day she would grow into herself, that one day she would be as beautiful as she already was smart. And even at ten, Miranda knew she would love him forever. But the years that followed were as cruel to Turner as they were kind to Miranda. She is as intriguing as the viscount boldly predicted on that memorable day--while he is a lonely, bitter man, crushed by a devastating loss. But Miranda has never forgotten the truth she set down on paper all those years earlier--and she will not allow the love that is her destiny to slip lightly through her fingers.… (més)

Reread this as a read along with the Fated Mates podcast, and I actually lowered the star a little than when I first read it over two years ago. I think at this point I’ve read enough heroes to know that Turner is kind of an ass here, and Miranda deserves better. Of course they get their HEA, and I still enjoyed reading this as the characters always have great dialogue; I just didn’t like Turner as much as Miranda. ( )

Sweet and lovely and funny, a joy to read, Quinn stretched out Turner's resistance a little too long and he started to seem like a jerk rather than someone acting out because he was hurt, which was an issue, but a minor one. A fun and uplifting read. ( )

It's not often that I read a Julia Quinn novel that doesn't blow me away, but this is one of them. A fun story, I definitely wanted to read it to the end, but it lacked some of the exquisite charm that her Bridgerton series has. ( )

I thought this book was really interesting and different.I thought it was interesting how they really didn't really resolve anything until the last few pages. I think how much guy loves her is almost painfully obvious and hilarious ( )

This book was recommended to me by a friend. Normally I am not a big fan of regency type books. This one however was a pleasant surprise. It did tend to drag a bit, but I loved the storyline. I did, however, want to throttle Nigel/Turner quite a few times. He was not the ideal hero, but in the end he realized his mistakes. ( )
