Man, I loved this book. Absolutely LOVED it. It was exactly what I needed to bust me out of my reading slump. I couldn't put it down and ended up reading for much longer than I'd intended every time I picked it up.

I loved that Jeff Lindsay brought in a genuine paranormal twist to explain Dexter's Dark Passenger. My only issue with the plot was the quick, too pat ending that didn't explain much. The last chapter left me scratching my head, but it wasn't enough to detract from the overall experience I had while reading the book.

I really enjoyed getting to see "Daddy Dexter" in full mentoring mode. And his interactions with the eccentric caterer were priceless! I had numerous laugh-out-loud moments.

Overall, this was an absolute delight! I can't wait to see what kind of trouble Dexter gets himself into next. ( )

Almost a decade ago, I started the Dexter television series and the book series at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them as they are honestly both fantastic in their own mediums. Michael C. Hall was (and still is) the perfect Dexter in my mind, and it gave a nice face to the character I was following in the books.

As things go, book 3 was impossible to find. At the time I was getting to reading it, it was sold out online and I could not find it anywhere. Since I am who I am, I was not interested in bootlegging it and decided it was now a chase (one of my first "chases" to be honest). I waited years and looked everywhere, deciding I wanted to find it at a local book store and not a chain book store, but it never happened (and honestly, sometimes I Just forgot about it - life gets busy). Then this wonderful Christmas, a family member of mine bought the book! It was magical, and I jumped on it not long after I got it. And now book four is close by and I'm itching to read it...

Another round of Dexter Morgan is featured in this book. There's eerie murders going on where people are getting beheaded. It seems like a ritual, but no one wants to believe Dexter. And to top it off? His Dark Passenger is MIA! That makes things so much more difficult, and there's a hint of someone following Dexter.... But he's enjoying his family life, so this isn't the best time for a stalker, just saying.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really like Jeff Lindsay's writing and I'm just curious how the book series is going to go. It's a little odd with the supernatural aspect to it (it feels out of place), but it doesn't bother me. I'm just going to keep moving through this series and enjoying the fast paced ride it is. It's just a book that vibes well with me (go figure it's a book about murderering people... probably not in my best interests to admit how glued I was to this book... but it's only fiction!.... I mean, Dexter did inspire a killer....Nope. I'm just gonna stop there. Well written book. Yup).

Four out of five stars. ( )

I love the show ! So I decided to give one of the books a try, and must say, I found it to be quite enjoyable. I couldn't help but hear Michael C Hall's voice while reading the novel, and being a fan of the show was already familiar with the main characters. The only characters that are different from the TV characters are Rita's kids Astor & Cody. They've been abused by their drug addicted father and unlike their TV counterparts have some very dark & disturbing tendencies. They see Dexter as a kindred spirit and plead with Dexter to show them the dark ways. The passages where " Dark Daddy Dexter" mentors the little devils are my favorite scenes, and are not to be missed. ( )

So far out of the three Dexter's I've read, this one was my least favorite. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book, I've loved them all, taken on it's own, it is a great read, but just compared to the other Dexter's, I liked this one the least. Interesting plot twists, including the one about Dexter's Dark Passenger. The supernatural part didn't bother me as much as it did in some of the other reviews that I have read. One thing I found that was funny is that Dexter claims to be so smart and all that, but he completely missed the whole thing about Cody seeing the scary man's shadow. I mean come on, what reader didn't pick up on that immediately, but somehow Dexter missed it. Anyway, I finished this book a while ago, I usually try to do my reviews right after finishing the book so it is fresh in my memory, but for some reason I didn't with this one. That's why this review might come off a little choppy, or lacking a little. Anyway, if you already at Dexter book 3, you don't need me to tell you anything. You're already hooked on the series just like me! ( )

Daft though the plot and the premise may be, by taking a comic, irreverent and politically incorrect turn, Jeff Lindsay not only animates a wickedly entertaining anti-hero but also breathes new life into a tired sub-genre of crime. Definitely Diverting Dexter.

The stuffy, academic thriller plot nearly suffocates Jeff Lindsay's usual wit.

...what a relief it is to find the amiable serial killer unspoiled by his success as the hero of the Showtime TV series he inspired.
