This was a cute and informational book about how different animals protect their offspring from predators or harmful things. I think it is a good book for kids and would be great for 1-3rd grade students. I am not sure if I would have this in my future class because the animals it used for examples arent very well known animals amongst children. I think it would be beneficial to have an informational book where the students are at least a little familiar with the animals

This book was really cute and showed how animal parents protect their babies from predators in a fun and child-friendly way. At the back, it featured a more academic description of what they do to protect their young, which I appreciated. This would be a great opening for talking about the food chain, predators and prey, defense mechanisms, and other animal studies. This would be appropriate for younger grades. ( )

The illustrations in this book are amazing! I like this book because it tells really short stories about different animals and the way that they protect their babies from prey. It was interesting to read this because some of these things I did not even know. This book helps to give students the knowledge that not every living being has or carries babies the same way. Some living beings have eggs and the eggs hatch, some give birth to a live being, etc. I think this book is super fun and would love to use it in my classroom.

I'm not much for the rhyming couplets he used. It's kind of the default poetry structure for this age group. However, this was a great book for its nonfiction informational text value. It was full of great information about how different species protect their young. Also the endnotes were great additions to the original text. What I wonder about are the illustrations. They're not terribly detailed or accurate to the appearance of the animals but maybe that was intended. It's not my favorite style, but that's fine. It's still a good book. ( )
