Wonderfully informative, with an inviting layout (not too text-dense), illustrations, and photographs. The author describes the many attempts to determine Stonehenge's history and purpose, and how many of the exploratory digs ended up eroding the site. In 1986, however, Stonehenge was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and from 2003-2009, the Stonehenge Riverside Project, led by Mike Parker Pearson, made new discoveries and pinpointed the dates of the various phases of construction at Stonehenge.
