La battaglia delle tre corone (edició 2017)

I was in the mood for something dark and young adult. I had this book from my Owlcrate subscription box almost 2 years ago. as I am quite new to the fantasy genre, I don't know how I would like it and if it will keep my attention. I was so wrong about my feelings, I absolutely loved it especially finding out the idea of this book came from a conversation about the life of bees. I love the matrilineal society and the world building. You can see how the poisoners want to keep the power and how the religion and the priestess play a very strong part in this society and want to rule no matter what even it means to murder in order to get the power.
There is a good cliffhanger, and I have to buy the second book so I can find out what will happen with our three queens.
I like Kendare's writing I am looking forward to the next books of the series as well as I will look for her other books.
Once again a fantastic idea for a book. ( )

I was completely immersed in the world and characters Blake created. It is clear, however, that this is the beginning of a series. Much of the book seems like very elaborate exposition for a larger story arc. ( )

How to choose a queen from a choice between triplets in the most brutal way possible. ( )

I am having a hard time with this one. It's too slow a starter for me. Lots of people and politics to keep track of, three POVs. I think only my dedicated fantasy readers will finish this one. ( )

I've rated this book 3 stars since I couldnt give it a mid range 2.5 stars. But it was a mid range 2.5 book. I HATED the beginning of this book. There was so much .. what the heck is happening .. happening in this book that I hated every second of it. I hate books with maps (not saying I hate all of them, there are a few that I like) but there was such a world being spun that I felt lost from the very beginning.

It took me until 3/4 of the way through the book to get a true feel of the world, and I just don't feel like that's a makings of a nice world - however, once that point hit in the book I felt like there was something there that I was enjoying, probably the darkness of it. However, did I enjoy it enough to carry on with the series, I'm unsure.

My favourite character by far was Kat - especially the end, though the very very last line of the book has me questioning life, so perhaps I'd change my mind about things - and continue on with the series to see where things are taken. Though if there's more tradition and whatnot crap to read I don't think I'd keep going after a few pages.. boy was that boring........................................... ( )
