Having previously read Judy Blume books while in elementary school and loving them, Judy Blume's own story of how she came to be a writer was both enthralling and heartbreaking. This book helped to describe the true nature of Blume's intentions, as she began writing books for her former self that would resonate with other children. She sought to write more honestly than most parents were comfortable with as personal communication was not as common back then. However, she persisted and it paid off. Her unique characters have stolen the hearts of millions and have since made their way back onto the shelves of elementary schools. I hadn't known that Blume had written so much that I read as a child, that she was so unliked initially, that her writings were banned from certain schools, that she was divorced several times, and that she had a bout with cancer. ( ) Women Who Broke the Rules: Judy Blume is the interesting life story of the author Judy Blume and how she became one of the best-known authors of our time. This book really helps the reader understand the time in which Judy Blume grew up and learned what her life goals were. Judy grew up in a time when women were not really writers and children's books were not about real-life situations. We, as readers. are helped to understand the reason Judy wrote the books she did and why she was so ahead of her time. Judy was frustrated growing up and not reading books about what was happening to her and around her. So, Judy decided to write about them and those books were well received by children everywhere. I grew up reading Judy Blume books and had no idea the backlash she faced by putting actual life events and subjects such as puberty in her books. I also had no idea that her books were banned. This book did a really great job explaining the reasons they were banned and Judy Blume's opinion as to why her books should not be banned. I really enjoyed this book, however, it was a little long. So the readers should be prepared for that because it is a picture book. I would recommend this book. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
"Judy Blume wrote her way through controversy and censorship to become a pioneer who helped make it okay for kids and teens to discuss their everyday concerns, including the kinds of things people don't always like to talk about. Now more than forty years into her career of writing frank and funny books, Judy still has the amazing ability to connect with young readers and adults"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
