This is my first Science Comics book, but not my last. These are basically a day read. They might look short and just for kids, but don't be fooled. These have a heavy dose of information. I actually learned things from this book. Didn't realize what we think of a dinosaur wasn't really an idea until the 1800s. Before they saw the fossils and though it was a mythical beast. The first dinosaur discovered in America was in New Jersey. This book is more about the history of discoveries and how dinosaurs evolved to birds than different types of dinosaurs. Still a must for those into dinosaurs and comic books. ( )

I bought two copies of this remarkable book, one for each of my dinosaur-mad 5 year old grandsons. The older people in their respective families are also much taken by this amusing (sometimes laugh out loud funny) and informative look at the lives of dinosaurs, the process of fossilization, the history of their discovery and those who study them. But they'll just have to share. ( )

Coming off of reading [b:My Beloved Brontosaurus: On the Road with Old Bones, New Science, and Our Favorite Dinosaurs|15793550|My Beloved Brontosaurus On the Road with Old Bones, New Science, and Our Favorite Dinosaurs|Brian Switek|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348512496s/15793550.jpg|21515524] last month, I discovered how much of a joy it is to learn about dinosaurs. It was only natural I turned to this, and I found it satisfying in nearly every way. I loved the visual aspect of the graphic format, the framing of what we believed of dinosaurs throughout eras of discover, and the humor was just the best. Definitely can't wait to really push this on library patrons, young and old.

This is not just a graphic novel. Science comics are full of interesting information, detailed illustrations, use of topic and more.

In this book we learn about dinosaurs through the discover of fossils. It talks about the history of fossil discovery including many of the adventurers and scientists who made the dicoveries such as Mary Anning, Richard Owen and Gideon Mantell. There are maps showing where in the world various fossils were found (pretty much everywhere) and graphs explaining the various time periods. Folklore is touched upon and how it relates to dinosaurs. How various species got their names based upon the skeletons, where they were found and even who discovered them. Using all the information from the skeletons, what else was found in the area, and where they were found, scientists are able to tell the story of these prehistoric animals. We learn about evolution and how many of the animals today evolved from the dinosaurs. There are still discoveries happening all the time and information that was believed to be true in the past, is being changed regularly. The back of the book contains a wonderful glossary, additional charts, and further resources to add to the information within these pages.

This would be a great book for anyone wanting to learn more about dinosaurs, scientific discoveries or junior paleontologists. Another book for classroom, school and public libraries.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )

The creators kept this educational book fun and fast-paced. I especially enjoyed the sections given over to the history of paleontology and the eccentric personalities of our earliest fossil hunters. The best pages are those that lay out the known facts about dinosaurs and geology and how those facts keep changing dramatically every few decades. It's a great of fun to flip back and forth and compare. ( )
