"Risen" is one of the better dramatizations on film of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ done so far. The film evokes a wide spectrum of feelings ranging from horror, disgust, and grief to surprise, giddiness, and hope. Though most of us know the story of the Resurrection, "Risen" presents the story in the genre of a crime drama. Although the film contains some graphic images of the realities of crucifixion, it's treatment of the Resurrection is refreshing and concordant with Orthodox Christian faith. ( )
