Their mother convinced their father to bring Hansel and Gretel into the woods and leave them there so that they could have more food for themselves. When they took the first trip to the woods, Hansel left a trail to find their way back. The second time birds had eaten the trail. Hansel and Gretel were left in the woods alone. They walked through the woods looking for food until they found a gingerbread house. They began eating off of the house and were taken in by a witch. The witch wanted to eat Hansel, but Gretel knew what was going on and was not going to let that happen. The witch planned to cook Hansel in the oven, but before that could happen, Gretel pushed the witch in the oven and closed the door. She saved her brother, and Hansel and Gretel lived happily ever after. I really like this book because it introduces children to fairy tales in such a great way.
