Lot of mixed feelings here. First off, Ian is a tyrant who used Sierra and fired her, and right after she saved his life, too. Ian- "I just want someone who will obey me" Ben's dad-[you can have my dog then] Poor Sierra.
About Neil, well, I like the name but that's about it.
Kacey and Ben-- what they did was treated as if it was wrong only because she got pregnant and the situation would have been okay if she hadn't.
Also, Esme, what have you done?! And Dante! And the unidentified body?

3.5 stars. I was introduced to this series and this author when I won a later book in the series in a giveaway. I enjoyed it so much, that I decided I wanted to read earlier books in the series. I'm not sure if it is because I've already read books from later in the series, or if it is another reason, but I did not enjoy this book as much as I've enjoyed others from the series. I don't know whether to attribute that to the fact that I already know some outcomes down the road in the story arc or to the story itself.

It was nice for me to learn some of the history between Kacey and Ben that was touched on in one of the other novels in the series. It was also nice to see Sierra when she worked for Ian and to figure out that Sierra and Willow are sisters (for some reason, I hadn't picked up on that yet in the other novels).

I would put this novel in the romance category moreso than some of the others in the series. The main theme seems to be the rekindling of the relationship between Kacey and Ben. Yes, there is some reference made to Kacey's time in the military and the PTSD-like symptoms she's having and there are a couple rescues by the PEAK team but they're not as prevalent as in some of the other novels in the series--which is odd since the series is titled "Montana Rescue".

It's hard for me to say whether reading this book would have intrigued me into reading more in the series--somehow, I don't think so. The PEAK team doesn't seem to have yet jelled in this book into the team I admire in other books in the series. ( )

Kacey Fairing, a search and rescue helicopter pilot, returns home to Mercy Falls, Montana on leave from the military to spend time with her daughter, Audrey. While on leave she takes a job as the pilot for Peak Rescue. What she doesn't know is Ben is home too. Ben King is a big name in country music now but it wasn't always that way. He grew up in Mercy Falls and now finds himself back home to help his dad recover from an accident and manage Peak Rescue. Ben and Kacey have a deep connection that time hasn't been able to erase. Now that they're working together, their long buried feelings begin to bubble to the surface. Will they set aside mistakes and misunderstandings of the past to perhaps forge a future neither of them anticipated?

This was a great start to a new series. I loved getting the know the folks of Mercy Falls. The author brings you into the story and doesn't let you go until you've turned the last page. I appreciated the fact that the people are realistic and flawed just like we are but there are also some great encouraging nuggets of truth sprinkled along the way. I loved the secondary story going on between Sierra and Ian which I think might carry over into the next book. There is also a mystery going on concerning Ian's niece which remains open-ended. This story however, had a very satisfying conclusion. I now look forward to 'Rescue Me', the next book in the series and I have put the prequel, "If Ever I Would Leave You" on my reading list. If you love stories about life, love and second chances, along with a some hold-your-breath moments then I would totally recommend a trip to Mercy Falls to experience for yourself the Wild Montana Skies!

A few favorite quotes:

"See, God can fix even the worst disasters, make something new and whole out of them."

But in face, having faith is the bravest thing we can do. It's the unwavering confidence that God loves us. That although we can't see the road ahead, we can see God. A God we know, a God that loves us - so much that he won't give up on us. Won't let us get lost even when we think we are. Real faith takes everything you have- throwing your life, your heart, everything you are with complete abandon into the embrace of God."

And maybe that's his MO - using the debris of our mistakes to show us how he can save us, rescue us from our dark places. We just have to have that crazy faith that he'll do it, despite our mistakes, our fears, even our pride."

Review: This book had me hooked from the beginning and I did not want to put it down. This is one of those stories I looked forward to reading when I was busy. I loved the characters and how they grew and matured along with the story. I rooted for them and grieved for them as well. I curled up under a blanket Saturday morning and thought I would just read "for a bit." After what felt like 15 minutes I looked up and realized it had been 3 hours! This is a book you can just get lost in and forget the troubles of your own world.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romances or who just wants something light and happy to read.

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher, a positive review was not required. All opinions are my own.*
