![]() No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. Not only an excellent novel, but incredible prose. It's funny and keenly observed. What a great novel. ( ![]() There’s no guidebook for parenting. Maybe fairytales are what we should look to. This really is a well written book which really tugs on the heartstrings. You will laugh. You will cry. But all in all you will enjoy a very good book which the author has obviously researched well. This is a story which will stay with you for a very long time. A story of modern issues and how they are dealt with in family life. This is a book I shall never forget Thank you so much to the publishers and netgalley for the arc of this truly wonderful book xx This really is a well written book which really tugs on the heartstrings. A story of modern issues and how they are dealt with in family life. This is a book I shall never forget Thank you so much to the publishers and netgalley for the arc of this truly wonderful book xx I wasn't a big fan of this book. Certainly it was readable, and it didd draw me in. Frankel drew the characters of the five children/adolescents well, allowing the reader to experience three-dimensional youngsters. The parents were relatively well-drawn, although I felt that their characters were quite flat, without a lot of the foibles and hypocrisies of one's average person-in-the-street. I've never read a book about a transgender person before. It's not what I was expecting the book to be about. I definitely felt like I was being given, through the several characters in the book, a lecture on the various ways of dealing with a trans child, looking at medical, emotional, physical, and social outcomes. That's why I didn't like the book: it was preachy. Personally, I have no issue with transgender people; I'm fine with it. What I resented was the way the material was presented, more lecture hall than interesting novel. I also found that a lot of the things that take place in the book really stretched the imagination. If you're going to have a book written like this, rather pointedly factual, then I think that other things should fall into place logically as well. It is very unlikely that a 10-year old child would be permitted to stay and help out in a clinic in a rural area hundreds of miles north of Bangkok, let alone teach school there. Not a fan. "This is how a family keeps a secret...and how that secret ends up keeping them. This is how a family lives happily ever after...until happily ever after becomes complicated. This is how children change...and then change the world. When Rosie and Penn and their four boys welcome the newest member of their family, no one is surprised it's another baby boy. At least their large, loving, chaotic family knows what to expect. But Claude is not like his brothers. One day he puts on a dress and refuses to take it off. He wants to bring a purse to kindergarten. He wants hair long enough to sit on. When he grows up, Claude says, he wants to be a girl. Rosie and Penn aren't panicked at first. Kids go through phases, after all, and make-believe is fun. But soon the entire family is keeping Claude's secret. Until one day it explodes. This Is How It Always Is is a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it's about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again; parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts; children grow but not always according to plan. And families with secrets don't get to keep them forever"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
