It's not systematic and at places it gets bogged down in repetitive minutia but it's just so darn interesting. ( ) Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . I had heard about some of the deceptions employed in the world wars of the 20th century, but hadn't really considered the long tradition of misdirection in war throughout history. This provided a good overview of many additional instances, and read well. Very interesting subject, and would like to read more about it. Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . A small and easy to read book. If you have never read about deception used in warfare before you will find this book very informative. The author briefly covers deceptions used from ancient times through the twentieth century. The majority of the book is on how complicated and large the deception that was required in order to successfully carryout Operation Overlord. I learn very little new things in this book and is why I suggest this as an introduction to deception in warfare. If you have read more in depth books this will have no new material for you. Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . As a person who knows little of the history of international covert affairs, I found this little book a fascinating primer! It is easy to read, leading one through thought processes that and situations that created various covert operations in war time. Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . This volume is easy to read and is easily accessible to those without a background in military history or espionage. The author discusses the relevant historical setting so that the reader can understand the context for each of his examples. My only criticism is the scope of the book, which seems to be focused almost entirely on only two time periods or events in history. It would have been nice to see other events so that each of the author's examples could be compared and contrasted with one another. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
This companion to The Dark Game: True Spy Stories introduces the military strategy of deception and examines how it has been used in war over the past 150 years.
From the story of the Trojan horse to today, deceptive techniques have always been used in war. In recent years the technology behind fooling the enemy has evolved dramatically. Janeczko focuses on the American Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf Wars to reveal evolving attitudes toward the use and effectiveness of deceptive operations.
