This book is about a boy and his journey to get out of Vietnam. It talked about what they have to go through in order to escape and how scary it is.

The sustained suspense of Tuan and his family's escape from Vietnam will evoke young readers' empathy and worry for their plight. Historical background will need to be provided for them to appreciate the scope of the family's survival. There are family photos and additional information to flesh out Tuan's story.
